Artists In Jackson: Jason Heinrich

Everything old is new again - for a reason.

Hello there.

For the latest Artists In Jackson 2 profile, I visit Jason Heinrich at Art 634.

Tucked in a cozy corner of Art 634 in Jackson, Michigan, Jason’s Yesterdream Studio isn’t just a storefront. It’s a portal to comfort, creativity, and memory.

Admittedly, the space defies easy classification.

“It’s not really a furniture store, not really a record store, not really a gift shop,” Jason says with a laugh. “But it’s also all of those things.”

Make sure to follow his Yesterdream Studio shop on Facebook, too.

I appreciated Jason’s thoughts about providing a comfortable place and comfortable items for what is increasingly becoming an emotionally uncomfortable world.

Jason invited me to shoot photos at his recent Steampunk on the Bricks event in May. More on that below.

Artists Project Update

  • Jen Dixon (@botanicalvoyeur) is just the kind of creative person that Jackson needs right now. We had a great chat, and I can’t wait to share their profile.

Recent Blog Posts

  • Munith, Michigan: My latest small-town Michigan trip - a part of a long-term photography project I’ve worked on for years (above). I’m proud of this series and its “micro adventure” spirit.

  • Steampunk on the Bricks: Jason Heinrich helps organize this Art 634 event, so I offered to take some photos and test out a new film simulation at the same time. It was a photographic bonanza, with all the fun costumes (below).

  • Hibbard and Hallett: A new-ish long-term project exploring little neighborhoods around Jackson.

Things I’m Into Lately

  • The Cult were the ultimate chameleon band: a little punk, a little goth, a little glam. I loved it all growing up.

  • A lot of the creatives I follow have shared that term “micro adventures” here lately. I like it. It’s basically how I’ve always lived my life, and how we - as a family - live today.

  • “Do what you can with what you have. Nothing more is needed.” - Rick Rubin

Things may slow down here over the summer. We’re heading to Nova Scotia and Maine on family holiday, so I’ll try to share some of those macro-adventures from the road. I hope to get one more Artists In Jackson profile posted before we leave.

Take care,

Dave Lawrence
